How We Operate as a Business Improvement District

The Grey Lynn Business Association (GLBA) is becoming an official Business Improvement District (BID) under Auckland Council’s BID Policy. We are a not-for-profit incorporated society, governed by an elected Board of local business representatives. Our role is to support local business growth, strengthen community engagement, and ensure Grey Lynn thrives as a vibrant place to live, work, and visit.

What is a BID?

A Business Improvement District is a community-led partnership between Auckland Council and local business groups. BIDs are funded by a targeted rate collected from commercial property owners within a defined geographic area - in our case, central Grey Lynn. These funds are reinvested directly into the district to support:

  1. Local business promotion

  2. Events and placemaking

  3. Advocacy with council and transport agencies

  4. Safety and activation initiatives

Our Governance

GLBA is led by a Board elected by local business owners and operators. The Board is responsible for:

  • Strategic decision-making

  • Financial oversight

  • Reporting to members and Auckland Council

  • Ensuring the delivery of the annual BID work programme.

Our 2025 Board Officers

  • Chairperson: Marco Muñiz (La Mexicana)

  • Secretary & Treasurer: Mike Collis (Dynamic IT)

Our Constitution

Our Constitution outlines how we operate, hold elections, manage finances, and engage members.

BID Policy & Council Oversight

GLBA follows the Auckland Council BID Policy, which sets out the standards and expectations for all BIDs in Tāmaki Makaurau.  The most recent update to the BID Policy was adopted by Auckland Council on 28 May 2025, and will take effect from 1 July 2025. Council will release a new version of the policy with graphics, resources, and print copies for all BIDs in the coming months. We will update this page with links to those documents when available.
