358 schools proposed to have new, safe speed limits outside the school gate.
Katoa, Ka Ora is a new draft speed management plan for Auckland. It focuses on introducing new, safe and appropriate speed limits around 358 schools in the Auckland region as well as in communities where there is support for change.
As part of the plan development process, Auckland Transport has surveyed almost 200 schools and held 64 workshops with key interest groups. Listening to and understanding their aspirations and concerns around speed management has helped Auckland Transport create the plan they are now sharing with all Aucklanders for the first time.

Update on Grey Lynn School Safer School Project
GLBA has had some dialogue with the Auckland Transport team responsible for the redesign of the safer schools project around GL Primary. The redesign project was implemented in 2020 with a view to a permanent solution two years later. Covid intervene, HOWEVER the design is back on the drawing board with an expectation of full consultation with ALL impacted parties mid next year.
There's no question our children must be safe but equally safe passage for ALL road users is also important. GLBA was not consulted on the last project but were now to forefront holding Auckland Transport accountable for improving the design with a sensible, cost effective solution for all.
In the meantime here are some before and after photos:
